Heath River Wildlife Centre

The community owned eco-lodge: Heath River Wildlife Centre (HRWC) is set in the heart of Peru’s pristine Amazon rainforest. It offers unique opportunities for exciting wildlife encounters.
The Heath River Wildlife Center is constructed of rainforest mahogany that was ecologically harvested from trees felled in the river. There is a main common area that is attractively furnished and partitioned into a dining room and lounge. There are 10 large bungalows with hot showers and toilets. All bungalows are comfortable and have a great jungle ambiance about them. Electricity is available from a generator in the main area and cameras and camcorders can be charged.

Meals
Meals at the Heath River Wildlife Center are decidedly Peruvian with an International slant. Peruvian food is delicious and the food at the center is no exception. While at the lodge all meals are included. Breakfast is generally had behind a specially constructed screen at the Heath River Wildlife Center’s private Macaw clay-lick. From this great vantage point breakfast can be enjoyed with superb views over the clay-lick. Lunch and dinner tend to consist of Peruvian dishes such as Aji de Gallina (mildly spicy creamed chicken and rice), Lomo Saltado (tender beef strips stir fried with onions, tomatoes, potatoes and rice), and a wide variety of Peruvian fish dishes.

Weather
Weather in the Tambopata Rainforest is very tropical and rainfall reaches around 2500-3000 millimeters a year. Most of the rain falls in the summer months between November and April. The average temperature in the reserve is 28° C (82° F), with daily highs of 34° C (94° F) and nightly lows of 22° C (72° F). The winter season or dry season sees less rain with daily temperatures dropping as low as 16° C (59° F) and nightly temperatures to 13° C (55° F).
